Coastal Designs

The intersections between natural elements and cultural forms are a source of endless fascination for me. Coastal structures such as boat sheds, jetties, lighthouses and ocean pools perform functional duties but they are also objects of design that interact with their natural surroundings.

These structures weather the elements, encountering repeated storms, strong winds and high tides. While some maintain a healthy posture, others rust, crumble or fall, becoming little more than historical artefacts. In this state, they reveal resilience and character. When viewed from above, they can morph into elegant forms and abstract shapes.
